Mark was pretty sure it was going to be an interesting week. He’d spoken to Kepner (which was unfortunate since the perky resident tended to annoying him, but she was the chief resident) about switching who was on his service since he’d told Lexie that he’d teach her since she had mentioned getting a bit annoyed with being on Derek’s service. Mark was happy to have her on his service, she’d always been brilliant in the past, and well Avery was great, but Mark did want to spend some time with Lexie. He couldn’t exactly deny the fact that he did care about her, and after hearing about her and Avery he felt bad.
He felt like somehow it could be his fault, but he had know idea how, he’d backed away from Lexie completely, and he’d found a girlfriend. Callie and Arizona had told him to because they were fed up of him being in their way all the time, and so Mark had done as they’d said and found a otomology attending from Seattle Pres. She was cute and she was fun, and Mark did really like her, but he couldn’t deny the feelings that he still had for Lexie, no matter how hard he tried to move on. He was doing what she’d asked him before though, and trying to be happy without her.
Mark headed over to the nurses station, where he’d paged Lexie to meet him. He had a good case today, an interesting case, a case where there was a specialist coming in; a specialist optomologist - his girlfriend. Mark really hoped there’d be no awkwardness between them, and that they would be able to work together with no tension. Mark grabbed the chart of the patient Mr Jenkins, and looked over the details. A tumour of the frontal bone which was causing vision problems, and facial scarring. Definitely an interesting case.
Lexie couldn’t help but to be a little scared to work with Mark Sloan. Mostly, because it would give Jackson more reasons to hate her. She had to live with him, that wouldn’t be okay. But truth was, when Mark asked her to, she jumped at the opportunity to be on his service. She didn’t know why she did it. She knew it would be awkward, she could try to deny it, but she knew it would. She just wanted to be around. Lexie figured he might be mad or something, he had hit his girlfriend out of jealousy. He had the right to be mad. However, he didn’t seem to be.
She lied to Derek. She told him Mark had a few interesting cases she wanted her to work with. If she didn’t lie, the neurosurgeon would have gotten mad and possibly deny her to be on his service in the future. Lexie didn’t want that. She just needed a break. As much as Derek’s service was exhausting, she figured being in plastics wouldn’t be so different. Working with Mark would be pretty exhausting as well. Because there was a thing going on. Like Jackson had said, there was a thing. Lexie hated herself for feeling this way, Jackson made her happy and she had completely ruined it. She felt guilty. But also relieved. Which was strange.
“You paged me?” Lexie asked, after making her way to the nurses station and spotting Mark. She gazed up at the chart Mark was holding and asked. “Anything interesting?” She was honestly dying for a good case. Derek Shepherd had given her a lot of these, but plastics was different. Less complicated, or so Lexie thought, and she figured Mark wouldn’t have as much rules Derek seemed to have while being in the OR. So she was excited. Scared, yet excited.
